Disclaimer

  • Thermography is an adjunctive procedure and all interpretive findings must be clinically correlated.
  • Thermography is not a substitute for anatomical testing and results will vary from person to person.
  • The absence of abnormal Thermographic findings does not mean that there is an absence of pathology.

What is Breast Thermography?

Breast Thermography uses infrared photography to create a thermogram, or an image of the breast area, revealing heat patterns that can indicate abnormalities like infection, inflammation or other pathology. Breast abnormalities can have abnormal blood vessel patterns and increased metabolic activity that give off more heat than the surrounding tissue. Analysis of these heat patterns can enable early intervention and reduction of risk.

What are the benefits?

  1. The Thermography procedure can be repeated as often as required as there is no compression and no radiation. This allows regular breast health checks with low risk.
  2. Thermography does not replace Mammography as a cancer diagnostic tool, but it can be a useful adjunct to mammography for women with dense breasts (especially younger women) or where other tests present difficulties.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should I start Thermography?

We recommend women start checking their breast health using Thermography as early as 20 years old, but it is never too late to start. Once we have established your ‘baseline’, all future thermograms will be a comparison to check if your breast health status is changing.

What can I expect during my appointment?

Having a Thermogram doesn’t involve radiation or any contact. During the examination, you will disrobe to allow for the surface temperature of your body to reach thermal equilibrium with the temperature of the room.

How often should I have a Thermogram?

In order to gain the maximum benefit from Thermography, after your first appointment which will establish your ‘baseline’, you will need an annual Thermogram in order to compare (against the baseline) and monitor any changes in your physiology which could indicate a change in your breast health.

Where can I have a Thermogram?
We run over 40 clinics across England and Wales on certain dates throughout the year. See our list of clinic locations on this page. Please get in touch so we can arrange an appointment convenient for you at our clinic closest to you.
